However perhaps that's something someone else may be interested in taking on, and we'd be more than happy to share the more technical details about how we find this.īottom line: if you play an FFA game, there is a means within the data to discern your individual MMR at the time of that game. We're doing this as a fun side project as a group of friends, so we have no plans to expand this and allow everyone that's interested to ping a service and pull their most recent MMR. It's important to note that our small group here has no way of checking what anyone's MMR is if they ask, we simply don't have the scalability to collect data for every player that asks. Right now this is the only way we know how to find this value, as we don't think it's something 343 wants folks to get a hold of. This means that with the way the data flows from Halo Infinite now, each time you play an FFA game, you can see what your MMR is as of the moment you complete that game. The XUID is an Xbox user ID, where we can map a user (and gamertag) to the team MMR in an FFA game: In doing some investigating, we found the following:Įven though this shows "Team" MMR data, each MMR datapoint here is linked directly to a single user in an FFA game, which we can map to a gamertag by referring to the XUID. While FFA games don't surface data in the "match detail" endpoint, we were interested in looking at the separate CSR service - the "skill service" - which handles the CSR/MMR data of a given match. We thought about how FFA games basically put people on separate teams, and looked into the data some more. However this doesn't provide a player with their individual MMR. We had been messing around with a lot of the data that 343 sends from their servers to a PC/Xbox, and found plenty of data regarding your team's performance and avg team MMR. In now knowing this MMR value, we have a few points of feedback regarding how it's implemented in Halo Infinite. It's a much more volatile numeric ranking than CSR, which is by design. MMR is your matchmaking rank, your hidden rank that is 343/TrueSkill's way of determining how good of a player you are. However nobody has been able to find or tease out what a given player's MMR is - until now. We know that "Avg Team MMR" data is available within the data people have poured through, and of course CSR data is available at a player level, even when they're not in onyx. There are many folks that do similar things, Halodotapi is one of the more notable developers, who powers many other projects that folks have created like. Since MCC we've been working to bring game stats and data into a private environment to do analysis and create some additional game assets that make the game more fun to us in reviewing our game stats. However I believe this is the first time such an analysis has been done with the actual MMR data for a given player.Ī small group of myself and 2 friends are long time halo fans and we're also very interested in game stats and data. There have been a few other posts on the subreddit calling out the issue where playing well in bot playlists gives you a higher MMR and messes with ranked lobbies once you move over to those. Our feedback is that a player with little to no experience in ranked can have a huge MMR based on their BTB play (or other playlists), which then throws them into extremely high skill lobbies out of their ability in Ranked or other arena playlists, which creates unfair lobbies and pushes people away from the game. Tl dr: We discovered a way to find a player's MMR within the data sent from 343 servers. Appreciate everyone's insight and resources! The data is still young on our side so we're still working to find more complete conclusions. That being said, we're still very interested to see how games in other playlists may impact the MMR of any given playlist. So it's likely not a representation of some global MMR as we initially understood. As of now, a few days after posting this, it seems important to more that it appears that the MMR we're looking at is specific to the ffa playlist. plenty of folks have shared great information and people are making use of this data point.
